Jermaine Sellers American Idol

 After showing America that he isn’t afraid to sport a “stylish one piece pj outift” Jermaine took the stage to sing “What’s Going On” Randy felt that even thought it was much better then last week it wasn’t a great performance. He felt there were good and bad moments but nothing amazing. Ellen commented on loving his style but then went on to say the performance tonight felt ‘pushed’ to her and just didn’t work tonight. Kara said that he has a great voice and can hit amazing notes but he needs to sing more from his heart and think more about the lyrics instead of showing us ‘all his tricks’. Simon said in a nutshell they are frustrated and dissapointed. He feels Todrick ‘waters down’ the song by playing around with it to much and no one can appreciate the song for what it is.

After singning “Get Here” by Oleta Adams tonight on American Idol’s top 24 show, the judges were not thrilled.
Ellen loves his look and is a huge fan of his. She however felt it wasn’t the best performance he was capable of. She thought he was trying to hard. Randy agreed and thought he was trying to put to much vocally into the song and it was hididng his voice. Kara enjoyed that he showed the ranges of his voice but thinks they need to be more meaningful. Simon thought it was a bad song choice. We have to keep Jermaine in! He has some serious talent!!!

Jermaine opened up to USA today in a nice, telling interview.  Some of the highlights include:

Musical influences: “Donny Hathaway is No. 1; Phyllis Hyman, No. 2.”
Best judge’s compliment: “Ellen told me she loved me. And Kara said, ‘Jermaine, you are hot!’”
Criticism he needed to hear: “Song selection. Any time I pick a song, just make sure it’s from the heart.”
Song he’d love to sing that’s not a good fit: When he sang A Kiss From a Rose. “Simon said it was the worst rendition he’d ever heard.”

Jermaine Sellers Final Hollywood Performance

Jermaine Sellers from “Phoenix” sings “Carry On My Wayward Son” on the American Idol 9 Hollywood Week Groups day. Jermaine says it right… He’s not meant for a group.  But he showed how he can standout, especially with that last note.
